GENERAL INFORMATION | The Dunn Center’s (now part of Centerstone) mission is to provide affordable, effective behavioral health care within an accessible system of services. Their residential program promotes independent living by providing individuals who might otherwise be institutionalized with private apartments. The Building was named for Alberta Hopper, who dedicated her career to helping & empowering patients during her 29-year tenure at the Fayette County Mental Health Association.
WORK SCOPE | Jacobs Pannicke Architects, now known as ARCHitecture trio, inc. was commissioned to design a new 16-unit apartment building that accommodates the special needs of the residents, affording provisions for 24-hour on-site supervision, pedestrian proximity to supportive services & all units are handicap accessible or adaptable. In order to maintain economical building lifecycle costs, finishes were carefully selected based on their durability & energy efficiency. The building features an emergency call system in each unit providing an additional level of security to the residents. A community room with kitchen, laundry facilities and interior gathering spaces completes the design with a stately brick front façade portraying a feeling of home, rather than institution.
