Constructed in 1842, this historic church is an excellent example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Located in the heart of Adrian, this building promotes associations of small town America at its most idyllic within the pedestrian friendly downtown. To better accommodate the special needs of aging members of the congregation, the church is proposing to make modifications to provide handicap accessibility.
The church solicited the services of Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc. (JPA) to design new accessible toilet facilities in Phase 1 of the project. JPA worked to reorganize restroom spaces to meet required dimensions as specified by American with Disabilities Accessibility Guidelines. Existing plumbing stacks are to be reused to create maximum results with minimum disruption. Phase 2 of the project will entail a more extensive remodeling. An elevator spanning all levels is to be incorporated into the building along with a new monumental stair. A newly defined rear entry with porte-cochere shall be developed to make the access from the parking area more prominent & architecturally inviting. All new elements will complement the historic style of the existing building. The parking lot will also be reworked to provide improved vehicular circulation.
Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc. worked closely with the church to define their programmatic requirements & development needs. Construction Documents will be completed for both Phases of the project. During construction, JPA will perform Construction Administration services through completion of the project.
