GENERAL INFORMATION | Located in the Fountain Square Historic Area, the Fountain Block Building currently serves as a Library Branch as well as apartments for the elderly. This 1902 3-story brick building with boiler house was originally designed for commercial at street level with apartments & offices above & a grand hall on the third floor. In 1994, the building underwent a substantial renovation to its current configuration.

 

WORK SCOPE | Southeast Neighborhood Development commissioned ARCHitecture trio, inc. to generate a Capital Needs Assessment (CNA) for the building. A physical inspection along with research & interviews were conducted to ascertain the history, management & maintenance. Report included: Material Inventory; Building Condition Analysis including mechanical & structural systems; Identification of Deficiencies along with Recommendations & Cost Estimate.

Construction Documents for renovation were prepared including Construction Administration services. Apartments were inventoried with upgrades devised for each unit. Funding was dependent on meeting a Bronze Level standard in accordance with the Green Building Design Standards. New energy efficient heating, cooling, lighting & plumbing fixtures will be introduced to as well as a new ‘white’ roof system.
