GENERAL INFORMATION | The 1923 former Lincoln Elementary School is listed as a Notable 20th Century Functional Style in the Tippecanoe County Interim Report. In 1997, the historic building was renovated to house 14 apartments in the classroom wing, while the gymnasium was converted to office space. An elevator was introduced to the building at this time. Lafayette Transitional Housing Center acquired the building in 2008. Their mission is to provide housing & offer supportive services to foster self-sufficiency for the recently homeless. They wished to increase the number of apartments while also updating the entire building including the existing units due to deferred maintenance.
WORK SCOPE | ARCHitecture trio, inc prepared renovation Construction Documents including Construction Administration services. Energy efficiency was a priority that did not stop with the mechanical, electrical & plumbing systems. A new ‘white’ roof system & storm windows were also included. An intermediate floor was introduced to the gymnasium wing to allow for 10 efficiency units. The design respected the existing historic fabric including retention of original wood floor at the jump circle. A sprinkler system was introduced to the building for the first time along with a new accessible ramp.
