The Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) sought the assistance of Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc. now known as ARCHitecture trio, inc. to support small neighborhood businesses with their Commercial Façade Program through grant funding applications. Through this program, LISC provides money to community development corporations which, in turn, provide funds to qualified people who are planning to repair or renovate the facades of their commercial properties.
The work scope included meeting with building owners and the community development corporation managers to discuss potential improvements. A scope of services was then prepared along with preliminary facades improvement drawings and cost analyses. Upon funding awards, a color rendering and/or measured drawings were created for inclusion in the formal bid solicitation to contractors. Construction Administration services were also provided as required.
Improvements are not limited to just the chosen buildings; this initiative has helped entire neighborhoods reduce blight and crime. Several projects have been completed or are in progress on East 10th Street, thereby helping to unite this neighborhood by increasing the number of commercial businesses, reducing vacancies and improving aesthetics as well as safety. The results are contagious, as more and more people in the community work to improve their individual buildings.
During the first year, ARCHtrio's assistance led to the award of nine LISC grants with funding approaching $75,000 to property owners for façade improvements in the downtown Indianapolis area. Year one also provided the knowledge and insight to expand the work scope to include twenty-one projects in year two.
Project was carried out under ARCHitecture trio’s former company name Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc.
