Over the course of about six months, the King Family gained possession of multiple log cabins situated in east central Indiana. Constructed circa 1815, the first cabin they obtained is believed to be the oldest house in Cambridge City. Covered in siding at an unknown time, the log construction was revealed when the previous owner began demolition. The Kings intervened to purchase the 1˝-story cabin to preserve this historically significant structure. Examined by a log cabin expert, the building revealed some unique characteristics that indicate the work of a highly skilled craftsman.
As they have for several previous projects, the Kings solicited the services of Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc. now known as ARCHitecture trio, inc. Multiple options were created during Schematic Design for the first cabin, offering sensitive solutions for this historic building. Further refinement of the plans resulted in the Construction Documents detailing the renovation of the cabin back to its original appearance.
To make the structure usable by contemporary standards, a rear 1-story addition was designed to increase the usable area without visually competing with the original structure. The cabin was restored for residential use with the addition housing a living room, kitchen and bathroom.
A second cabin was relocated to downtown Cambridge City and was converted into the corporate headquarters for Mr. King’s business. All mechanicals and modern amenities were kept outside of the original structures. New foundations and full basements were also included as part of these projects.
Project was carried out under ARCHitecture trio's former company name Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc.
