Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc. now known as ARCHitecture trio, inc. was selected by the Sanctuary to complete a Feasibility Study of the former Carmel United Methodist Church building in Carmel, Indiana. The building has been vacant since 1960 and is in a state of severe disrepair.
The Sanctuary has been established as a not-for-profit organization with a mission to serve as a foundation for Peace, Hope and Acceptance. The organization provides education to learn about other’s race, country (history, people and religions) and culture (customs, food and art). The intent of the Sanctuary is to provide a place for learning about self, others and the wisdom that unfolds from this knowledge.
It was proposed that the former church facility be renovated to provide the physical structure necessary to fulfill the purpose of the Sanctuary. Plans include using the original sanctuary space as the main meeting area and to be available for personal prayer and meditation. This primary space would also be made available for rent to the public for group gatherings, meetings, services, ceremonies, presentations, small art exhibits and theatre productions. Office space was also included in the project for the purpose of fundraising in support of peaceful education, sustainability and projects that promote cooperative community building. A museum space was also incorporated in the plans to acquaint visitors with the past roots of the property and the progress of hope for which the building has been restored. A small gift shop will offer art and artifact items to the general public for purchase.
A Feasibility Study was produced for the building including; history, physical description, condition analysis, photographic documentation, rehabilitation recommendations, opinion of probable construction cost, potential ongoing maintenance costs, property value opinion and proposed plan sketches.
Project was carried out under ARCHitecture trio’s former company name Jacobs Pannicke Architects, Inc.
Study Completion: Autumn 2004 Estimated Construction Cost $ 750,000 |
